ROOM REVEALS!

We’ve been here just over two months now and have two rooms painted and somewhat finished, curtains, blinds, carpet and artwork to come, wow it sure has taken some hard, hard work! A way bigger job than we expected thanks to all that wood and all those bora holes. We can’t complain though because the wood was part of what we loved most about this building, so much wood and so much character.

Whilst we would have loved to have keep some of the wood in it’s natural state, this just wasn’t possible after treating the many, many bora holes, so painting the wood paneling it was and we are just so happy. Cosy vibes activated.

The brief I gave myself was… cosy, yet masculine, highland lodge feel. A nod to the strong Scottish heritage of this area, it’s everywhere and I love it and am absolutely embracing it! Fairlie is named after a Scottish town in Scotland, the Mackenzie District after a naughty Scottish man who roamed this area and the Courthouse itself had its own Scottish Constable, the legendary ‘Old Mac’.

So here it is….a far cry from my Scandi minimalist style back home! I’m an interiors addict and I love and appreciate so many interior styles and this has been a chance to embrace that, and its been nothing but pure fun! A house, it’s era and its style and history speaks as to how it should be decorated and I immediately felt the modern country style suited this space with a masculine edge because well, a Courthouse to me screams masculine. I wanted to add subtle feminine touches to it, especially when I heard from a local that it was once painted pink!

THE COURTROOM;

Olive walls and a subtle pink ceiling gave me all the cosy highland lodge feel. The only new purchases in this room were the leather sofas, the chesterfield up on ‘the bench’ had to stay but now its my reading sofa with an adorable floor lamp purchased second hand right here in Fairlie. In future I’m thinking it’s the Gentleman’s whisky sofa after a day out exploring, golfing or dare I say hunting? The olive walls give it the moody, masculine feel that I was after and I love how the light changes it slightly as the light outside changes throughout the day. Tartan blinds to come will finish off this Scottish highland lodge feel, all ready for cosy winters ahead!

THE DEFENDANTS ROOM;

I’ve kept this room quite neutral, blinds and curtains to come will add texture and character and tie in with the main Courtroom. It’s a comfortable, cosy room and a far cry from what the defendants would have felt back in the day! Now we rest and gather our thoughts for the Judge’s room and kitchen and bathrooms. My mind is working overtime with the possibilities!
