As you may know, we are renovating a 100 year old courthouse in the little town of Fairlie in The South Island of New Zealand. It needs a lot of love…but we have a vision!

First things first… declutter! As a professional organiser I was instantly in my element creating order and calm so we could move ahead and have the place feel a little less cluttered and a little more loved.

The Courthouse was left fully furnished which has made moving straight in a lot easier, but many, and I mean many, items just had to go! Wallhangings, blankets as curtains, records on walls, bunk beds, chairs…the list goes on.

Amongst it all we have found pieces we adore that will become a feature of the courthouse, an antique bench from the South Canterbury Mens Club, a sturdy table made from a Norwegian fishing trawler, an antique brass bugle, vintage ski accessories and paintings and prints.

From all the pieces we have saved, this simple framed print has provided all the inspiration I need for this courthouse renovation. It just evokes a sense of calm and a feeling of a highland lodge cabin in the mountains feel and I am running with it!

Think a subtle touch of tartan, textures, moody greens, layering, lots of layering to achieve a cosy, cocooning place to be. We are so excited to get this project happening but of course before the decorating can begin, the prep work needs to be done and we are both hard at work making this happen.

There is lots to learn but at the same time there is no rush, luckily there are hiking trails galore around us and if we need a break, away we go to recharge.

Stay tuned for more progress in the coming weeks!
